Opportunistic Infections - Heart Allograft

Compared to liver, kidney and lung allografts, diagnosis of an opportunistic infection in an endomyocardial biopsy of a heart allograft is uncommon. There are no cardinal principles to follow, except that the pathologist should always be on alert for these relatively uncommon complications so that the rare case is not misdiagnosed.
