Figure 6. This needle biopsy of a donor liver shows macrovesicular steatosis affecting 30-40% of the sampled parenchyma. Such livers will predictably precipitate fibrinolysis and a bleeding diathesis after transplantation, but will function. Whether to use such livers in a particular recipient is a decision that must be made by the recipient surgeon.
