Severe preservation injury results in marked cholangiolar proliferation,
as shown in this photomicrograph; acute cholangiolitis, hepatocellular
swelling and hepatocanalicular and cholangiolar cholestasis. These
changes may persist for weeks to several months after transplantation.
Similar changes can be induced by sepsis.
