By 3 hours after transplantation of a liver allograft into a presensitized recipient, the sinusoids are swollen and still contain platelet and platelet fragments. However, platelet fragments also can now be detected in the cytoplasm of Kupffer's cells, indicating active phagocytosis of the activated platelet and breakdown products.
