Acute rejection can be superimposed on
ischemic/reperfusion injury. Note the large areas of myocyte
dropout, that are typically seen with ischemic/reperfusion injury.
Note also however, the presence of a significant mononuclear
inflammatory infiltrate, that signals the presence of a co-existent
acute rejection of moderate severity
(IHLTS, Grade 3A).
