Cytomegalovirus infected cells can also be occasionally detected in an
endomyocardial biopsy. In this sample, note the enlarged cell, hyperchromatic
and smudged nucleus on low magnification(right side). On higher
magnification, a subtle hint of an intranuclear inclusion can be
detected(left side). Immunoperoxidase staining for CMV antigens confirmed
the diagnosis(inset).
