Hemobilia, or the presence of red blood cells within the lumen(arrow)
and/or around the circumference of bile ducts is seen under two circumstances:
a biliary-vascular fistula and after a vigorous cholangiogram where
radiocontrast material is injected under pressure into the biliary tree. Under
the latter circumstances, the disorder is usually self-limited.
