Similar changes are seen in another field from the same biopsy specimen. Note the nature of the inflammatory cells within the lamina propria and the alterations in the crypt epithelium with an increased nuclear:cytoplasmic ratio, nuclear crowding, small nucleoli, and diminished mucin vacuoles. Apoptotic bodies are present (arrow), as are occasional mitoses.
