In this plasmacytic area, intracytoplasmic Russell bodies are seen. These globular aggregates of immunoglobulin are indicative of longstanding antibody production by the cell and are another indicator of the chronicity of the plasma cell inflammation. I do not recall ever seeing Russell bodies as a component of plasma cells in PTLD, but we have not formally studied this issue.
