Occasionally, cytomegalovirus manifests as small microgranulomas
scattered randomly throughout the lobules, as shown here. In these cases,
inclusion bodies may not be detected and immunoperoxidase staining is needed,
which can highlight infected cells before they show any cyotmegalic
change(see next photomicrograph).
