The hepatic artery exclusively supplies the bile ducts, portal and
hilar connective tissue and lymph nodes. As seen in this gross photograph,
hepatic artery thrombosis, particularly early after transplantation when the
allograft is devoid of arterial collaterals, results in selective necrosis of
the biliary tree and surrounding connective tissue(arrows).
