Figure 6. Cytomegalovirus infected cells can also be occasionally detected in an endomyocardial biopsy. In this sample, note the enlarged cell, hyperchromatic and smudged nucleus on low magnification(right side). On higher magnification, a subtle hint of an intranuclear inclusion can be detected(left side). Immunoperoxidase staining for CMV antigens confirmed the diagnosis(inset).
