A high power view shows a dense focus of plasma cells. Areas like this raised the suspicion of PTLD. No immature forms are seen here, and there is no evidence of necrosis. Plasma cell aggregates can be seen in old allograft kidneys. Special stains for EBV are required if there is a question of EBV-associated inflammation or neoplasia and would be appropriate in this case.
