This is another example of a mild, "rejection-type" portal infiltrate and mild portal edema, but without definite duct damage or portal venous endotheliitis. Note the presence of a few eosinophils. Biopsies like this one are most often obtained within the first six weeks after transplantation: they have a rejection-type portal infiltrate, but fail to meet the criteria for mild acute rejection. Therefore, the most appropriate grade is "Indeterminate" for acute rejection. |
