As can be seen from the above photomicrograph, this portal tract contains a mild inflammatory infiltrate, which is just starting to impinge on the portal vein in the upper part of the triad. Note however, that there is no convincing bile duct damage, nor convincing subendothelial infiltration of the portal vein, or portal venous endotheliitis. There is however a portal infiltrate with a composition typical of that seen with acute rejection, which in this case would receive a score of "1" or mild portal inflammation in the Rejection Activity Index(RAI).
