This grocott stain for fungi nicely shows the small, but variable-sized yeast forms, typical of histoplasmosis, which is the most common cause of these small fibrotic granulomas in the liver. The recipient in this particular case was started on prophylactic anti-fungal therapy and did not suffer and histoplasma infection after transplantation.
