Figure 1. Fibrosing cholestatic hepatitis is a name that has been given to a unique presentation of viral hepatitis type B, which occurs in some allograft recipients. Other names that have been used include, steatoviral, fibroviral, steatofibroviral and fibrosing cytolytic hepatitis. All of these terms refer to the degenerative changes, portal fibrosis and ductular proliferation that is seen in association with overproduction of the B virus in liver allografts. In this example, note the marked centrilobular hepatocyte swelling and central-to-central and portal-to-central bridging collapse.
