Pretransplant Donor Biopsies

Pretransplant Donor Bx
Figure 21. A higher magnification of the previous frame shows in detail, the monotonous nature of the portal infiltrate, which is composed of small, round "well differentiated" lymphocytes. The lack of non-lymphoid cells and the expansile nature of the infiltrate made favor a diagnosis of lymphomatous involvement of the liver. Although a definitive diagnosis could not be made on the liver biopsy, a sampling of the retroperitoneal lymph nodes from this donor revealed effacement of the nodal architecture, typical of lymphoma. Thus, this organ was not used for transplantation.
