This high power magnification of the portal tract shows the key
routine histological features used to establish the diagnosis of EBV-related
post-transplant related lymphoproliferative disorders. Note the monomorphic
composition of the infiltrate, which is composed of large atypical lymphocytes
many of which show features of plasmacytoid differentiation. In contrast to
acute rejection, note the paucity of eosinophils and other non-lymphoid
hematolymphoid cells.
