Figure 4. In this photomicrograph, moderate bile duct inflammation and damage are present. Note the inflammatory cells inside the basement membrane of the bile ducts, which show cytoplasmic vacuolization and mild nuclear pleomorphism. In the Banff schema for rejection, this finding would receive a score of "2" for bile duct inflammation and damage, if similar changes were seen in more than an occasional bile duct.
