Figure 3. This high powered photomicrograph better illustrates the sinusoidal damage seen during cold preservation of a liver allograft. Note the large areas in the sinusoids that are devoid of endothelial cells. This results in loss of the anti-thrombogenic milieu and therefore, a predisposition to sinusoidal thrombosis and areas inadequate sanguinous reperfusion.
