This biopsy was taken within several hours after reperfusion
in the recipient. Note the presence of periportal hemorrhage,
and a small rim of hepatocytes undergoing coagulative-type
necrosis, in which the eosin stain is lighter than in the
surrounding, more viable hepatocytes. This can be a
particularly worrisome finding in a "post-reperfusion" biopsy,
taken within minutes to hours after complete restoration
of the hepatic blood flow.
