In some cases of chronic type B viral hepatitis, the portal inflammation is
quite mild, yet there is a brisk ductular reaction and hepatocyte degenerative
changes in the lobules(right side). The left side of the photomicrograph shows
the abundant expression of HBcAg in the cytoplasm of degenerating hepatocytes.
When these changes are marked, the pattern of injury has been called fibrosing
cholestatic hepatitis.
