Figure 7. This section, taken from the hilum of a failed liver allograft with severe acute rejection, shows invasion of lymphocytes into this peripheral nerve trunk. Although peripheral nerves are rarely sampled in needle biopsies, lymphocytic inflammation of the nerves can help substantiate the diagnosis of acute rejection.
