This photomicrograph shows some of the earliest signs of hepatocellular
injury seen after humoral rejection of a liver allograft. Note the
hypereosinophilia of many of the hepatocytes in the center of the field.
These changes preceed the large geographic areas of
hemorrhagic necrosis,
which occurs in grafts destined for failure.
